How To Mail Merge On Mailchimp

Email marketing continues to be a crucial aspect of customer engagement for businesses of any scale. Mailchimp is a tool that simplifies this process and offers a feature called Mail Merge to send out individualized emails on a large scale. This guide will assist you in setting up a Mail Merge campaign on Mailchimp.

Step 1: Setting Up Your Mailchimp Account

To get started, you would need a Mailchimp account. If you do not have one, head over to https://login.mailchimp.com/signup to create one.

Step 2: Creating Your Email List

After setting up your account, the next step is to create a list of email recipients. To do this, click on the Audience tab, and then the Create Audience button. Fill in the details and import your contacts to create your email list.

Step 3: Creating A Campaign

Now you’re ready to create your campaign. Click on the Create Campaign button at the top of your dashboard. You’ll then choose the Email option and then Regular.

Step 4: Setting Up Mail Merge

Next, you’ll need to set up your Mail Merge. For this step, you’ll be using merge tags to personalize your emails. Merge tags are codes that you insert into your emails, and Mailchimp automatically replaces them with the appropriate recipient-specific content.

For example, if you wanted to personalize your email greeting with each recipient’s first name, the merge tag would look like this *|FNAME|*. This tag will be replaced with the recipient’s first name when the email is sent out.

Step 5: Inserting Merge Tags into Your Email

To add merge tags to your email, open the campaign builder and click on the Edit Design button. Then, in the design editor, click on the area where you want to add the merge tag and select Insert Merge Tag.

//Example of using a merge tag in your email content
    Hello *|FNAME|*,
We have an exclusive offer just for you!

Note: Mailchimp provides a wide range of merge tags that you can use to customize your emails. View the complete list here.

Step 6: Sending Your Mail Merge Campaign

After setting up your Mail Merge, you’re ready to send your campaign. Review your campaign settings, and when you’re ready, click the Send button.

And that’s it! You’ve now successfully set up a Mail Merge campaign on Mailchimp. Keep experimenting with different merge tags and personalization options to perfect your email marketing strategy. Happy mailing!
