Ever feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of ads that pop up on your Facebook feed while you’re just trying to catch up with friends and family? You’re not alone. However, there is a way to limit the number of ads you see. Although it’s not possible to completely turn off Facebook ads, we can show you how to adjust your ad preferences to make them more relevant to your interests.
Step 1: Access Your Facebook Settings
Firstly, you need to access your Facebook settings. To do this, open your Facebook app and tap on the three horizontal lines icon (also known as the hamburger icon) on the top right corner of your screen. A menu will appear—scroll down and tap on ‘Settings and Privacy’, and then ‘Settings’.
Step 2: Navigate to ‘Ads’
In the ‘Settings’ menu, scroll down until you find the ‘Ads’ section. Tap on it to access your ad settings.
Step 3: Adjust Your Ad Preferences
In the ‘Ads’ section, you’ll see several options. Tap on ‘Ad preferences’ then ‘Ad settings’. Here, you can make changes to influence which ads you’ll see in the future. You’ll see three sections, each of which allows you to control a different aspect of the ads you see on Facebook.
Data about your activity from partners
In this section, you can choose to turn off the setting that allows Facebook to show you ads based on data about your activity collected by its partners. To do this, tap on ‘Data about your activity from partners’, and then select ‘Not allowed’.
Categories used to reach you
This section lets you remove yourself from certain categories that Facebook uses to target ads towards you. To do this, tap on ‘Categories used to reach you’, and then tap on the minus icon next to any category you wish to remove yourself from.
In this section, you can choose to disable the setting that allows Facebook to show you ads based on your social actions. To do this, tap on ‘Ads that include your social actions’, and then select ‘No one’.
While it’s not possible to entirely turn off ads on Facebook, these steps will allow you to significantly limit the number of ads you see, and make the ads you do see more relevant to your interests. Hopefully, this guide has made your Facebook experience a little more enjoyable. Happy browsing!
