How To Temporarily Disable Instagram

Want to take a break from Instagram, but not ready to say goodbye for good? Instagram allows you to temporarily disable your account, which means your profile, photos, comments, and likes will be hidden until you reactivate it by logging back in. Here’s how to do it.

Step 1: Log into Instagram on a desktop or mobile browser

You can’t temporarily disable your account from within the Instagram app. So, log in to Instagram.com from a computer’s web browser or your mobile device’s browser.

Step 2: Access your profile and edit it

Click or tap the person icon in the top right to access your profile. Then click or tap the Edit Profile button near your profile picture.

Step 3: Scroll down and select “Temporarily disable my account”

Scroll down on the edit profile page and click or tap Temporarily disable my account at the bottom right.

Step 4: Choose a reason for disabling

You’ll be asked to select a reason for disabling your account. Select an option from the dropdown menu.

Step 5: Re-enter your Instagram password

After selecting a reason, you’ll need to re-enter your Instagram password. This is a safety measure to ensure that you, and not someone else, is making the request to disable your account.

Step 6: Click “Temporarily disable account”

Finally, click or tap the button that says Temporarily Disable Account.

Remember, you can reactivate your account at any time by simply logging back in. If you want to permanently delete your Instagram account, there’s a totally different process for that. Be sure to understand the difference before proceeding. Happy Instagramming, or not!
