Often, organizations need to declutter their JIRA instance or remove outdated information, which can include deleting a board. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps of deleting a board in JIRA. Please note that only a JIRA administrator or a board administrator has the right to delete a board.
Step 1: Navigating to the Board
The first thing to do is to navigate to the board that you want to delete. After logging into your JIRA account, go to the main dashboard. From there, go to Boards in the top menu. A dropdown list will appear; select View all boards.
Step 2: Selecting the Board to Delete
Once you are on the ‘View all boards’ page, you will see a list of all the boards created in your JIRA. Find the board you wish to delete, and click on the ellipsis icon (three dots) next to it to reveal additional options.
Step 3: Deleting the Board
After clicking on the ellipsis icon, a dropdown menu will appear. From this menu, select Delete. JIRA will ask you to confirm the deletion because this operation is irreversible. After confirming, the board will be deleted.
The sequence of steps can be summarized as follows:
1. Log into your JIRA account.
2. Go to Boards -> View all boards from the main dashboard.
3. Find the board you want to delete.
4. Click on the ellipsis icon next to the board.
5. Select Delete and confirm the action.
That’s it! You have successfully deleted a board in JIRA. It’s worth noting that deleting a board does not delete any issues or data associated with it. The issues can still be found in the project. Also, remember to be extra careful while deleting a board as this action cannot be undone.
