Review of Woot.com
Woot.com is a unique online store and community. There tag line is “One Day, One Deal.” and that is basically what the site is about. Each day woot with feature a different product, for a relatively cheap price. The items are usually aimed at the electronic gadget crowd, but they will occasionally have some humorous items (including the Leak Frog, Plastic Pig, and Screaming Monkey). The items will be on sale for the entire day, or until they sell out. The descriptions for the items are always funny and the writers at woot seem very creative.
Occasionally woot will host an event known ad the woot-off. You can tell this because they will have flashing light on their homepage. In a woot-off, items will be on sale until they sell out. When an item sells out, it will be replaced with the next item. This will continues for either a day or two. These events can be very tired, as some people will stay up all night waiting for the best deal. Some items will only be up for a few seconds, some for a few hours. The items that don’t sell out fast are know as woot-off killers.
The most sought after item on woot is the Bag of Crap. The Bag of Crap is also known as the BOC, Bride of Chucky, Bandolier of Carrots, Blinged Out Cabbage and the forum will actually change the words “Bag of Crap” to some other no sense term that follows the BOC format. A bag of crap is usually $1, except for the time that it was 1 million, but you got a discount for using the word please at checkout. The woot staff didn’t mention this to anybody, and the first person to figure it out got the BOC. The contents of the BOC are random. Usually some left over items that haven’t sold well will be thrown into these bags. A few times the woot staff have giving away some pretty expensive items like a big screen TV in the bag of crap. You never know what you are going to get, but it is always recommend that you buy 3 craps if you can purchase one. It is almost impossible to get a bag of crap because the server will come to a crawl with the number of people trying to purchase the item. They always sell out in the first few seconds.
Woot also has a forum where users can discuss the products before buying. Users also post random pictures (for some unknown reason) and generally useless info (mostly complain about not being able to get a bag of crap). Usually the product reviews are honest. However, during a woot off, users will recommend people buy items, even if they are not good, so that they can move on to the next item. Woot will also hold a weekly contest where users have to submit pictures that include woot products. These are always funny.
If you haven’t check out woot.com I suggest that you do. I will give you a warning that it can be very addictive. So have fun and don’t lose too much sleep. Don’t forget to use a woot-off checker to help save the servers during a woot-off.
